DMP-BD55 Panasonic

What Hi-Fi magazine rated the new Panasonic DMP-BD55 a full five stars in their recent review. No wonder really. It's a feature packed, high spec Blu-Ray DVD Player that gives you a high definition movie experience like nothing you've had yet.

The DMP-BD55 is Panasonic's first Blu-Ray DVD Player to support the new Profile 2.0 standard, which allows you to access the new, advanced and interactive features found on new Blu-Ray DVDs. Things like picture-in-picture commentary (as you watch the movie the director pops up in the corner of the screen as a 'talking head' and gives you behind the scenes information), BD-Java applications (for enhanced menus and interactive features) and BD-Live (extra content you can download through the DMP-BD55 ethernet port). It's this ethernet port which allows you to download software and firmware updates too.

The picture quality is truly stunning thanks to Panasonic's P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD) image processing, which delivers knife-edge sharp 1080p images and supporting 24 frames per second "original film" frame rates. The motion is also totally smooth without losing any of its definition. The DMP-BD55 can also upscale your old DVDs to full 1080p resolutions making them look top quality on a large LCD or Plasma television.

Audio is just as good as the picture. Using HDMI, the DMP-BD55 supports full bitstream output of Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD and Dolby Digital Plus. It can also convert all these formats for you into linear PCM. Standard Dolby Digital and DTS are also supported and can be output either via the HDMI or via optical or coaxial digital connection. And last but not least, the DMP-BD55 has a set of 7.1 analogue audio outputs so if your AV kit cannot support HDMI audio decoding then you can still get all of the fantastic sound quality available from Blu-Ray DVDs.

No matter what Home Cinema setup you have, the DMP-BD55 will deliver you a superb performance with picture and sound quality that really does set new standards in this price bracket.

At the heart of the DMP-BD55 is the new PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus which is a high quality image-processing technology developed by Panasonic to precisely process each pixel of the Blu-Ray DVD video signal in the vertical direction. In the Panasonic DMP-BD55 it can reproduce colour data with twice the accuracy of conventional systems which keeps the colours faithful and sharp. P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel. So that it can render progressive images superbly, expresses motion smoothly, and draws crisp diagonal lines.
